Artificial Intelligence in Social Sciences Research Lab (AISS)

I am the Scientific Director of AISS, Bocconi University’s lab for AI methods in social science research. The lab was created under the university’s 2026–2030 Strategic Plan and is open to researchers from every Bocconi department and research centre.

AI is changing what social scientists can measure and study. Text, images, audio and administrative records that once needed years of manual coding can now become structured data, and questions that were out of reach become answerable. AISS helps Bocconi researchers work at that frontier through two pillars:

  • Projects Incubator. Support for research that AI makes possible, not just faster: computing resources, research assistance and methods advice for selected projects.
  • AI Clinic. Open to every Bocconi researcher: help choosing the right method, tools and computing resources for a research question.

The lab is interdisciplinary by design, so methods developed in one field travel to others. It is overseen by a Steering Committee and an International Advisory Board.
